The General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Mississippi, Inc. (GMBSC) ended its 134th Annual Session with their 2nd Annual Freedom & Light Gala.

Faith leaders from across the state of Mississippi traveled to the coast for the 2023 General Missionary Baptist State Convention. Monday marked day one of the two-day event held at both Centennial Plaza and Morning Star Baptist Church in Gulfport.

“Reverend Buckley has a wealth of pastoral and leadership experience,” said MDAH board president Spence Flatgard. “I am thrilled he agreed to join our Board."

U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson was in Natchez Thursday morning as a $750,000 grant from the Lilly Endowment was officially announced for the benefit of Natchez College.

Tuesday marked the beginning of the construction of a Baptist Heritage and Arts Center on the grounds of the historic Natchez College.

Lilly Endowment Inc. has awarded a $2.5 million grant to the Foundation for Mississippi History to help the Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) support and promote programs, activities, and projects focused on the understanding and interpretation of the role of religion in Mississippi history and culture. Lilly Endowment made the grant through its Religion and Cultural Institutions Initiative, a nationwide effort to help museums and other cultural institutions improve the public understanding of religion.
